    Esophageal cancer (EC) is one of the leading causes of mortality due to malignancy in the West. The most common type of EC worldwide is Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC). According to the 2012 data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), esophageal cancer ranks ninth among the most common types of cancer globally. This section will discuss the radiological diagnosis of esophageal cancer.

    3Prof. Dr. Cemil Göya received his bachelor’s degree from Dicle University Faculty of Medicine in 1998 and completed his medical specialization in Radiodiagnostics at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine in 2005. Between 1998 and 2000, he worked as a general practitioner at Bitlis Adilcevaz Göldüzü Health Center. From 2000 to 2005, he served as a research assistant at the Department of Radiodiagnostics at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine. He worked as a radiodiagnostics specialist at Van High Specialization Hospital from 2005 to 2006, Erciş State Hospital from 2006 to 2008, and Private Van Medical Park Hospital from 2008 to 2011. In 2012, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Radiodiagnostics at Dicle University and received the title of Associate Professor in 2015. In the same year, he was appointed as an Associate Professor at Dicle University Faculty of Medicine. In 2017, he transferred to the Department of Radiodiagnostics at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine. In 2021, Dr. Göya was appointed as a Professor at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty of Medicine, where he continues to serve in this role. During his research career, he has authored more than 100 research articles, oral presentations and poster presentations. Dr. Göya is a member of many professional organizations including Turkish Society of Radiology, European Society of Radiology, Turkish Magnetic Resonance Society and continues to work in the fields of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology.
