PHYSICAL EXAMINATION A hands-on examination that includes inspection, palpation, per- cussion, and auscultation to assess the patient’s physical condition and identify possible abnormalities. • Inspection – Visual observation of the body, its systems, and as- sociated movements to detect visible signs of health or disease. • Palpation – The examination technique used to assess body structures, texture, temperature, tenderness, and other fea- tures. • Percussion – Tapping or hitting the body to produce sounds that provide information about the density and properties of the underlying tissues. • Auscultation – Listening to internal body sounds, such as heartbeat, breath sounds, and bowel sounds, to assess organ function and detect possible abnormalities.
